Meet Lynn

For the past 34 years, Lynn Ellen Rice has owned and managed Lynfield Farm with a relentless focus on exceptional equine care, guided by the horse management principles she has learned from some of the equestrian industry’s top professionals. A lifelong horsewoman, Lynn’s diverse horse experiences range from owning and showing National Champion Appaloosas and Pleasure Horses to National Champion Show Hunters.

Lynn currently trains with Tom and Tracy Brennan of Vineyard Haven LLC, showing her amateur hunters Easy Street and Absolutely. Her professional relationship with the Brennans spans nearly 20 years, and Lynn greatly admires their talent, knowledge, focus, and partnership. That partnership has led to the development of some of the country’s most exceptional show hunters, including Gramercy Park, the 2012 United States Equestrian Federation Horse of the Year—ridden by Tom Brennan and trained by Tony Workman.

Lynn’s horse farm management philosophy has 3 cornerstones, influenced by the horsemen she has learned from, including Tony Workman, Tom and Tracy Brennan, and Shannon McCulloch.

DIGESTION, AND THEREFORE GRAZING AND MOVEMENT, ARE THE KEYS TO HORSE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS

As a result, Lynfield Farm offers all night turnout year-round and provides unlimited hay.

Do whatever allows the customer to sleep worry free at night.

Turnout is offered in the morning as well, and during the winter, horses are blanketed according to the owner’s preference.

Exceptional horse care requires constant attention to detail and a consistent routine that horses and their owners can rely on. Lynn has assembled a dedicated staff of the best equine caretakers in the business to ensure nothing is overlooked.
In 1997, Lynn got married and decided to stay close to home. Around that time, she began showing hunters with Tony Workman. For over 30 years, Tony worked out of Lynfield and taught Lynn much of what she knows about horse care and they developed many successful show hunters together.

Lynn hopes to continue learning, riding, and enjoying a business that, after 34 years, must be considered a success. She is eternally grateful for her father’s inspiring vision and to see that vision manifested each day in the lives of the healthy and happy horses at Lynfield Farm.

Lynfield Lore

Lynfield Farm began in 1989 when Lynn’s father, William G. Brakefield, bought the 152-acre property as a real estate investment. It had previously been a racehorse breeding and layup facility and at one time was owned by a group of Redskins football players and called the Northern Virginia Stallion Station. Both a genius and an optimist, Lynn’s father was sure we could create a successful horse boarding facility.

Although Lynn was still in college, she learned to run the business with her father’s guidance to “provide the best product at a fair price.” Luckily, not long after finishing renovations, show hunter trainer Tony Workman inquired about moving his business to Lynfield Farm and a show hunter training facility was born.
